Floatation Additions

Floatation can be added in a variety of ways to correct an existing list, or to prepare a vessel for the anticipated weight of a construction addition or heavy furniture.

    Shown here is a system which was added by Morgan Construction after a kitchen remodel caused the vessel to list dramatically  to the North.  It consists of two 4 foot by 8 foot floatation devices.  In this case, the West corner was lower than the East corner, so a deeper floatation device was installed on the West side.  Steel diagonal supports were used here, but often wood supports are chosen to blend in with the existing architecture.  Here, the structural frame was covered with an attractive red cedar planking.

Ballast, usually in the form of large water-filled drums, can be added to fine tune the list correction.
